Just somethign to tide you guys over till I actually finish this up. Maybe I might post nothing at all. I'm getting lazy. Anyway....
This is not really a tutorial. Just an example of how I work.
* DONE IN ILLUTRATOR CS AND PHOTOSHOP CS
*note not all steps are shown
1. First, I make a sketch.
2. Scan it in
3. Trace it. - When I trace, I draw a fill to make strokes as opposed to drawing a uniform line. The "ink" feel makes it a little more interesting.
4. I would make new layer for the flat colours. Except for the hair, which would go on top of everything else. So it would be like this.
-Hair
-Clothing Lines
-Clothing
-Body Lines
-Shading / Highlights
-Flats
-Original Drawing
XPLANATION OF THE IMAGE (From left to right)
5. What happens when I import into flash. - Due to Flash's incompatiblity with blending modes, I am forced to work entirely in illustrator till I'm done the colouring.
6. Water colour mode. I get this by deleting the skin colour on the "Flats" Layer. I like the way it comes out. So forget what you think.
7. Water colour/(Shadows and highlights) with all the Flats. Not much else to say here. See the difference between this and the imported flash version?
8. Save and PNG - It's a WIP, so I could care less. I'm just screwing around with it.
9. Open in photoshop and start airbrushing / dodging / burning. I suppose this could be done if you had different layers. Oh well.
10. Obvious PS effect: Guassan Blur + History tool / new layer + mask.
Well, that's basically what I'm doing. No mystery here.
I may or may not post the final. I have other things to do.
That is crazy, do you think illustrator is a must for doing your styles and what not or is flash and photoshop good enough? I wanted to learn illustrator but i already know flash so i wasnt sure
To tell you the truth, this is my second time ever using Illustrator for illustration. Every other time I've used Flash. I just like Illustratorls blending modes (multiply/screen) so I wouldn't have to keep changing colors. I'm sure I could achive the same effects in Flash, but Flash's pen tool is a litte too difficult to use.
Can you help meee? I wanna draw an animation in photoshop and then import it in flash. I tried, but the parts where it´s supposed to be transparent, there´s this annoying white square all around the imported drawing that gets in front of all the background and other objects. Is there some way to do it right?

This newsletter was "born" back in March 2007, from a conversation between ~Lareth and =FrozenStarRo, who with the help of their friends *Iardacil and =Sylwiaa , wanted to make something to promote known and unknown photomanipulators alike here on DeviantArt. As of September 2009 =ImaginaryRosse joined the project and will be helping us out with the weekly choices. While things have changed over time, the essence of the newsletter is still the same. As of recent, the talented =Behana has joined us in bringing you this weekly newsletter and we are excited to have her on board. This is a special feature, with a selection of 50 manips from the past year that we loved.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
